What is
Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a progressive genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits breathing over time.
In people with CF, mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene cause the CFTR protein to become dysfunctional. When the protein is not working correctly, it cannot help move chloride — a component of salt — to the cell surface. Without the chloride to attract water to the cell surface, the mucus in various organs becomes thick and sticky.
In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps germs, like bacteria, leading to infections, inflammation, respiratory failure, and other complications. For this reason, minimizing contact with germs is a top concern for people with CF.

Annual Fund
Gifts to the Annual Fund provide important, unrestricted resources that help us advance our mission. Supporting this campaign allows us to pursue the Foundation's mission, including seeking opportunities for promising research that could lead to a cure for CF.

Legacy Giving
The Foundation is dedicated to working with donors who are considering or who have made plans to leave a gift in their will, trust, or by beneficiary designation. A gift can be made in honor or memory of someone and demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of those with CF now and in the future. Participants can also become a member of the Paul di Sant'Agnese Legacy Society.

Major Giving
Over the past 10 years, major gift donors have contributed over $257 million to the CF Foundation. Within our portfolio of giving opportunities, the CF Foundation relies on major gifts from individuals and family foundations that directly support our mission. Outright gifts of $10,000 or more in stock or cash in any calendar year, or pledges to be paid over three to five years, qualify as Major Gifts.

Corporate Giving
CF Foundation national and local events provide companies with opportunities to align with a results‐driven organization and better position their brand. There are a wide range of ways for businesses to get involved with the CF Foundation, including sponsoring a CF Foundation event, participating in workplace giving, forming a national corporate team, and volunteering. Companies that support the CF Foundation benefit by providing their employees with a meaningful experience outside of the traditional office environment.
